Developing Health & Wellbeing in the Community

Healthy Mind Healthy Grind is a new health and wellbeing initiative birthed out of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Soul and Sound realised that many people in the community needed to be supported physically, nutritionally and mentally throughout this difficult period and beyond. Working in partnership with various organisations, We developed a range of fun and educational activities and programmes to support members of the community.

Healthy Mind Healthy Grind Self Development Programme We are very proud of our supportive community, from professionals, entrepreneurs and community organisations to like-minded individuals who support the HMHG programme for young men and women. Through the programme, regular communication and interaction through online groups and Q&A sessions means our members can access valuable exchanges and information to enhance their physical and mental well-being.

Members will take part in nutritional information classes as well as plant-based cooking classes on a budget. Members will also be motivated via daily videos, quotes, weekly challenges and bi-weekly accountability sessions where members will set action points and celebrate their wins.

Workshops and Presentations Our director Marcel Andrew is very passionate about the health and wellbeing of young people and families today and he has made a conscious effort to educate them on the benefits of eating healthy. Marcel was raised in a deprived neighbourhood in East London and has had first-hand experience in not being able to maintain a healthy lifestyle physically and mentally due to a lack of resources, money and support. Through his research, and working alongside health care professionals, he believes that our nutrition plays a big part in our mental health which then can affect our physical health leading to stress, anxiety, depression and much more.

Statistics show there are high numbers of independent chicken shops, bookies and liquor stores in deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. Can this be a reason for high crime rates in these areas? Today he is working with many organisations across London to bring awareness to this issue and show people that there are alternatives to eating unhealthy and you can “Live Good in the Hood!” with little to no money at all.

Plant Based Cooking Workshop

We deliver fun, interactive mobile plant-based cooking workshops for families, schools, sport clubs, residential homes plus much more. During this time of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, our workshops have been educating and upskilling individuals and families on the importance of bulk cooking, behaviour habits around snacking and replacing unhealthy ‘go to’ snacks for much healthier alternatives.

Participants work closely with a cookery teacher / personal development coach to learn how to cook succulent plant-based meals on a small budget. Not only will they learn new or improve their cooking skills, but they will understand the importance of the ingredients they put in their food and the nutrition benefits and health hazards around consuming fast food.

We also discuss the importance of being a conscious consumer of food and the gut and brain connection and what we eat affects the way we think, feel and act daily.

Each week participants cook a different dish, sweet and savoury, also getting the opportunity to take the dish home. For homework and weekly accountability using the PNM system, they are also given the menu and step by step instructions of how to cook each meal at home as a family or independently with a chance to share it with the group each week

PNM 3 Point System was created by our Director Marcel Andrew during the pandemic who used this system in his personal health and wellbeing journey. Over a course of 8 weeks he was able to to see physical, nutritional and mental improvements within himself. By filling out the ‘Table of Life’ and journaling each day on what he did physically, nutritionally and mentally he noticed he was able to become more active, alert and food conscious which helped him strive to become more positive in life overall. We now use this system with the people we work with and with bi-weekly accountably session we can keep track on the improvements of our participants. We believe you have to celebrate your wins as well as look at the areas of improvement while working towards your goal. For more information on the PNM 3 Point System contact us.
